How to read these numbers

A contract award isn’t a finished installation, and a utility program often has several installers. Here is how we write about each kind of number.

Ask for a program reference

UPA’s own count. We say “by UPA’s count” or “UPA reports”, give the dates and link the announcement.

A whole program’s total. When a utility or regulator reports a total for a program, we say it covers all installers. UPA’s share isn’t published unless the source gives it.

A contract award. We call it an award and add finished counts only when the utility reports them.

A utility’s own record. When a utility, regulator or council document names UPA, we summarize what it says and link it.

Installed. A meter or module physically exchanged and recorded as complete. We count different commodities and installers separately.

Manufacturers, primes and qualifications

Kentucky PSC and manufacturer records identify Landis+Gyr on LG&E and KU, and EWEB’s records identify Sensus. UPA’s Tucson Water announcement describes its work with Itron. Those relationships belong to the programs named; they aren’t a general certification or partner status.

Company-wide safety figures, current credentials and quality measures should be requested for the period and scope of your contract. Read our safety and compliance information.
