Maintaining utility-owned streetlights

Installation, conversion and maintenance each make different demands on a field program. Define the inventory, ownership, access and expected work before setting routes and schedules.

What to ask for in a lighting proposal

Ask for a relevant named reference, a fixture schedule and any documented service commitments. We don’t yet publish a lighting result with numbers.

References

We don’t yet publish a named lighting project or fixture count. Energy savings and response times depend on each project’s records.

Common questions

Straight answers for utility teams. Customers with a question about an appointment should start with their utility.

Does UPA work on utility-owned and city-owned streetlights?

Our lighting service is offered to investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities and cooperatives. Confirm ownership, electrical scope and responsibilities for your program.

Can the work include LED conversion and controls?

Yes. The service includes LED conversion and installing lighting control systems. Your program should specify the fixtures, controls and commissioning.

What is the outage response time?

There’s no standard commitment. Routine and emergency response times, dispatch and exclusions are agreed in the contract.

How much energy will an LED conversion save?

We don’t publish a general savings figure. An honest estimate uses your existing fixtures, the replacement design, operating hours and a measurement method.

What happens to removed fixtures and materials?

Your program scope should say who owns them, what gets returned and who handles disposal. We confirm the process with the utility before work starts.

What safety and qualification records should a utility ask for?

Ask for current licenses for the work and the state, insurance and bonding documents, crew training records, and EMR, TRIR and DART figures with their dates and definitions. Ask us for the current documents that match your scope.
