SMUD: meter battery replacement scope
In 2025, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) awarded UPA the replacement of batteries in about 24,000 Landis+Gyr meters.
In April 2025, SMUD’s board added battery replacement for about 24,000 Landis+Gyr meters to UPA’s contract. SMUD hasn’t yet published how many batteries have been changed.
Keeping installed meters running
The board packet records two additions to UPA’s contract: batteries for 8,728 meters and for another 15,272, about 24,000 in all.
This is maintenance on meters already in service, not new installations. See AMI lifecycle management.
Where things stand
The board approved this work in 2025. A count of finished replacements will be added when SMUD publishes one.
