National Grid New York: AMI installation

UPA is the primary installation contractor on the National Grid upstate New York program. Across all installers, the program had installed 1,637,031 electric meters and gas modules by April 30, 2026, according to National Grid’s May 2026 report to the New York Department of Public Service. UPA’s share of that total hasn’t been published.

Filings with the New York Department of Public Service name UPA as the primary installation contractor for National Grid’s smart-meter program in upstate New York. The installation totals in those filings cover every installer on the program.

What the filing counts

The program covers electric meters and gas modules. National Grid’s public information also names Scope Services, and the utility’s own crews install transformer-rated meters, so the total belongs to the whole program.

Schedule

The program is scheduled to finish in July 2027.

Appointments, technician checks and opt-outs

Customers should use National Grid’s smart meter page or the number on their utility bill to confirm a visit, check a technician’s identity or ask about access and opting out. National Grid sets the program’s rules.

UPA’s main number reaches our headquarters in Greer, South Carolina. It isn’t a scheduling line for National Grid appointments.

Where things stand

Other contractors and National Grid crews also install meters on this program. National Grid hasn’t published how many UPA installed, or whether UPA installs the gas modules.
